A split foundation is two separate pieces. That changes the item count, but it can make narrow stairs and corners easier to manage.

Identify the construction

A standard foundation is one rigid rectangle. Split king foundations usually arrive as two narrow pieces. Some queen foundations are also split. Check beneath the bed or look for a seam that runs the full length.

Measure the rigid part

Unlike many mattresses, foundations do not flex much. Measure the width and height of the foundation, then compare those dimensions with the narrowest door and stair turn.

Watch for exposed hardware

Broken fabric can reveal staples, wire, or cracked wood. Do not grab through torn material. Tell the provider where the damage is so the crew can choose safe handling equipment.

Count every piece

List each foundation and mattress separately. A king set may include one mattress and two foundation pieces, which is three items for loading and facility fees.
